To be truthful, the fandom for Godzilla had discovered to be suspicious of non-Japanese filmmakers bringing their beloved kaiju to U.S. shores, thanks solely to Roland Emmerich’s 1998 model of the large lizard. The film was such a disappointment that even apologists like me can solely muster up a “Effectively, it isn’t THAT unhealthy” protection. Its most ardent haters, then and now, discuss with it with the acronym “GINO,” which stands for “Godzilla In Title Solely.”
One would assume that, given the widely optimistic reception to each 2014’s “Godzilla,” the primary entry in what has turn out to be Legendary Footage’ MonsterVerse, and 2019’s “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” (which launched such fan-favorite monsters as Mothra, Rodan, and Ghidorah to the US sequence), the MonsterVerse had gained sufficient goodwill with followers that no petitions wanted to be made. But fandom gonna fandom, one supposes, and positive sufficient, consumer Márk Moldován created the petition about “Godzilla vs. Kong” shortly after “King of the Monsters” dropped in theaters.
Granted, the petition itself is not significantly demanding; it merely says “Do you bear in mind the epic and humorous scene when Kong shoves a tree in Godzilla’s mouth in ‘King Kong vs. Godzilla’ (1962)? Would you like it to occur in ‘Godzilla vs. Kong’ (2020)? If sure, signal this petition.” Nonetheless, the irony is that, whereas a whole bunch of individuals made their voices heard about wanting Kong to shove a tree in Huge G’s face, “GvK” director Wingard was already laborious at work making it occur.
